New York State Center of Expertise Promoting Sexual Health, HIV/STI/HCV Health Care, and Secondary Prevention for Gay Men, MSM and Transgender Individuals
ACRIA is a designated New York State Center of Expertise (COE) Promoting Sexual Health HIV/STI/HCV Health Care and Secondary Prevention for Gay Men, MSM and Transgender Individuals funded by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute.
In this role we collaborate with Callen-Lorde’s Health Education Program. The Callen-Lorde Community Health Center is New York City’s leading community health center with a mission to provide quality, sensitive medical services targeted to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities – in all of their diversity – regardless of ability to pay.
This COE is charged with developing a range of training interventions designed to prepare non-physician health and human services providers to work with gay men, MSM, and transgender individuals to: promote sexual health; encourage HIV/STI/ HCV screening; address barriers to health care and treatment adherence; and promote secondary prevention with a focus on avoiding transmission of HIV to sexual or needle sharing partners.
This COE works with the AIDS Institute to conduct provider need assessments, define specific topics for curriculum development, develop and implement trainings statewide in-person, via webinars, and on-line in conjunction with The AIDS Institute’s COE On-Line Training Center.
